In addition to the list below, it is recommended that you view the following website for a COMPLETE Pre-Deployment Checklist:

--Update or create your wills at the Legal office on base

--Obtain a POA--Power of Attorney--DO NOT rely on a general power of attorney.  It will NOT always get you what you need.  Make sure you inquiry about Specific Power of Attorney's such as Vehicle, LES, Financial Instituion, etc.

--Obtain a copy of your spouse's TDY orders.  With them, you can obtain free services on base such as an oil change!

--Update DD form 93--Emergency Data Card.  Your spouse can see MPF or his/her squadron's First Shirt for this.

--Make sure you know where all of your family's important documents are located such as birth/marriage certificates, wills, POA's, SGLI and other life insurance policies, and vehicle and lease/mortgage documents.

--If you plan on leaving the Tri-Care region for 30+ days, TRANSFER regions.  Otherwise, you and your family will NOT be covered.

--Be careful who you inform about your spouses' deployment.  This is for general safety, and we want you to feel safe and secure.

IDEAS FOR THE CHILDREN:
--Record favorite bedtime stories or songs before the military member deploys so mommy or daddy can still be at their side.

--Make a mommy/daddy box.  For every day/week that the member is away, the child can pull out an item that is special or reminds him/her of their parent.
